It’s hard saying goodbye to summer. At least it is for me.
I love everything about summer. The warm weather, green grass, cookouts, long days, swimming pools, bathing suits. Okay, maybe not everything, but most things about summer I truly love.
But school has started, the days already seem to be shortening, and soon the leaves will be changing colors. Fall is almost upon us and there’s not a darn thing I can do to stop it. Sigh.
So yesterday we had one last outing at the pool to wish summer a fond farewell. My friend Susanne invited all of us out to her pool for an evening full of swimming, pizza, families and fun.
It was great to have the husbands at the pool for a change.
They could be in the pool with the kids and we could stay nice and dry on the pool deck, for once!
Although it was a warm evening, It was still a bit chilly getting out of the water. Just ask Molly….
While the grown ups enjoyed some adult conversation at their own table.
Moving to a new city is always an unknown. You have to make decisions on where to buy a house based on things like school districts and proximity to work. You have no clue what your neighbors will be like, if there are any kids the same age as your kids, or how long it will take to establish new friendships.
It seems like a crapshoot. You just don’t know if your mostly random decision will turn out to be lucky or unlucky.
I must say that we were extremely blessed. It seems that we landed in the perfect place. Our neighbors are great. Every one of them. There are tons of kids for our kids to play with right outside our door. And we have established new friendships quickly with people that we truly enjoy.
Spending the evening at the pool with dear friends was the perfect way to say goodbye to summer and to celebrate our first anniversary of living in our new house.
Here’s hoping that the winter is short and that summer arrives early again next year!
